Canva Confidence

with guest expert Jo Richards

That quick Canva job has taken most of your morning again, hasn’t it?

You opened Canva to make one thing for your business. Somehow you’re still changing fonts, moving a logo two millimetres to the left and wondering why the template looked better before you touched it.

Join The Pink Nest and guest trainer Jo Richards, Grey Card Creative for a practical, three-hour workshop to help you find your way around Canva, understand what makes a design work and create things you can keep using in your business.

When and Where?

Thursday 19 November 2026

10am–1pm

School Green Centre, Shinfield, RG2 9EJ

Early bird £80 until Sunday 18 October

Standard price £90

Three hours to learn, practise and ask the questions you can’t ask a saved tutorial.

You can change the words on a template. It’s everything after that.

The spacing looks odd. You can’t find the design you made last week. You’ve downloaded something but who knows where it’s gone. And making a carousel that flows neatly from one slide to the next feels like a job for someone with considerably more patience.

Canva gives you plenty of tools, but knowing which ones to use, and why, makes a real difference.

This workshop is for small business owners who are new to Canva or already use it but still feel as though they’re guessing. We’ll start with the foundations, then work through actual designs together, with questions welcome as we go.

What You'll Learn

First hour: get the foundations working for you

  • Find your way around Canva’s tools and understand the basics of using them well.

  • Organise your files so finding an old design doesn’t become a separate project.

  • Learn how to create templates, share your work and choose the right file type when downloading.

  • If you use Canva Pro, explore setting up your brand so your designs feel more consistent.

Second hour: make designs that look thought through

  • Understand composition: how the elements on a page work together.

  • Put that into practice by creating a simple flyer.

  • Create a seamless carousel, with a design that flows across the slides.

Final hour: bring your designs to life

  • Explore creating Reels in Canva using video clips and still images.

  • Try transitions and animation, and learn how to add graphics.

  • Work on your Reel and ask questions, with time for a final Q&A.

Your flyer does not need another font. You need to know why the first three aren’t working.

Once you understand the tools and the design decisions behind them, there’s a lot less random clicking involved

What you'll leave with...

A flyer, a carousel, a Reel. And a better idea of how to make the next ones.

By the end of the workshop, the aim is for you to have three designs to keep working with, plus the skills to create more:

  • A simple flyer you can adapt for your business.

  • A seamless carousel you can build on for future posts.

  • A Reel created using video, stills and graphics.

  • A clearer understanding of layout and composition.

  • A more organised approach to files, templates, sharing and downloads.

You’ll be working through the exercises with Jo (with Robyn & Laura for support), so if something doesn’t make sense, you can ask there and then instead of hoping you’ll work it out when you get home.

Make the next quick Canva job feel a lot less like guesswork.

Spend a morning getting to grips with the tools, learning what makes a design work and creating things you can actually use for your business, with Jo there to help as you go.

MEET YOUR TRAINER

Jo Richards, Grey Card Creative

Jo is a Berkshire-based designer, illustrator and founder of Grey Card Creative. She specialises in working with small businesses, particularly those run by women, helping them create branding that makes their business look the part.

For Canva Confidence, she’ll guide you through both the tools and the design thinking behind them, from getting your files organised to creating a flyer, seamless carousel and Reel.

Bring your questions, including the ones you think you probably ought to know the answer to already. That’s what the workshop is for.

We keep these workshops deliberately small

This isn't a conference where you'll sit at the back watching someone click through 96 slides.

Our workshops are kept small because we want you to be able to:

  • Ask questions about your business

  • Get help when you're stuck

  • Practise while we're there

  • Have us look at what you're creating

  • Meet other local business owners without needing a name badge and a networking personality transplant

We want you leaving having done something, not just feeling temporarily inspired to do it later.

About The Pink Nest

Practical marketing help for people who also have a business to run.

Founded by Laura and Robyn, The Pink Nest brings small business owners together for practical marketing workshops that help you understand what you’re doing and put it into practice.

For Canva Confidence, we’re bringing Jo’s design expertise into the room, with time to have a go, get stuck, ask a question and try again.

What business owners say about learning with The Pink Nest

Crammed full of information AND fun

Somehow Laura and Robyn managed to cram a lot of information into their course AND keep a fun and light-hearted atmosphere. They answered all questions thrown at them with confidence and a wealth of knowledge and it was great to have the chance to focus on just one aspect of social media (reels). I particularly liked that they offered to live tutorials creating a reel together which you could choose between based on your skill level.

Laura and Robyn make the best double act...

Two powerhouses coming together to share so much information in a way that was relevant to my business, easy to understand and easy to implement.

Since taking onboard their strategy, my Instagram account has reached phenomenally more people, gaining me more followers, more interactions and given me the confidence to try new things. Thank you both for such a fun, enjoyable and interesting evening!

Susan

It was excellent

I was lucky enough to spend some time with Jo who took me through her Canva Confidence course. It was excellent, well thought out and very useful. It will certainly save me time and I now have a fuller understanding of what Canva can doand how to get the most out of it. Highly recommended

Philip

I learnt so much... thank you

I met some interesting female business owners, some just starting out and some like me, who’ve been in business many years who wanted to learn how to use Instagram, to enhance our business by showing our credibility and expertise.

Both Laura and Robyn gave practical advice, with simple instructions and the reasons for why.

And yes, I’m implementing as and when I can!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are few frequently asked questions, if something you want to ask isn't anwered here, please feel free to drop us an email - [email protected]

I'm new to Canva, is this for me?

Yes. We’ll start with the basics, including tools, file organisation, templates, sharing and downloading, before moving into the practical design exercises. You can ask questions throughout, so you don’t have to sit there quietly wondering which button Jo just clicked. Please do come with an account already created though.

I already use Canva, will this be too basic?

If you can edit a template but still struggle with layout, organising your designs, carousels or video, this should give you plenty to work on. The first hour covers the foundations, so if you’re already confident across all the topics listed, this probably isn’t the right level for you.

Will we actually make anything?

Yes, this is a practical workshop. We’ll work through a simple flyer, a seamless carousel and a Reel together. The aim is for you to leave with three designs you can continue using and developing, alongside the skills to make more.

Can I ask questions while we work?

Absolutely. Please ask when you get stuck rather than saving everything until the end. We’ll work through the exercises together and leave time for questions at the end too.

Does this cover reels in Canva?

Yes. In the final part of the workshop, we’ll look at using video and still images to create Reels, adding graphics, and working with transitions and animation.

How much is it?

Early-bird tickets are £80 until Sunday 18 October 2026. After that, the price is £90. Your ticket covers the three-hour in-person workshop with light refreshments.

When and where is the workshop?

Thursday 19 November 2026, from 10am to 1pm, at School Green Centre, Shinfield, RG2 9EJ.

What do I need to bring?

Bring a fully charged laptop and charger, and make sure you can log into your Canva account. Have your logo, brand colours and any photos or video clips you’d like to use easy to access, so you can spend the session creating rather than hunting through your camera roll.

Do I need Canva Pro?

No, you’ll be able to do everything on a free account. However, we’ll cover setting up your brand if you use Canva Pro.
